Section outline

  • In Unit 4, we moved forward in the speech creation process, into the process of researching and collecting supporting information to build our message. Conducting research is a rigorous process that requires evaluating the effectiveness of sources and yields valuable information for your speech content, helping build speaker credibility. The types of supporting materials (definitions, examples, statistics, testimony) we collect will provide ample variety to our message to make it valuable and memorable to our listeners. High-quality sources are imperative regardless of whether you are constructing an informative speech or a persuasive speech. This unit emphasizes that effective advocacy requires locating high-quality evidence and using that evidence to logically support and clarify points for the audience. Now that we have collected our resources, it is time to move forward in the speech creation process and organize the body of your speech.
