Section outline

  • In Unit 6, we explored the execution phase of the speech creation process – the delivery phase. Once our message is constructed, we can focus on using memorable language, strategic delivery methods, effective presentation aids (audio-visual aids), and practicing or rehearsing our speech. The language we use will influence our audience and help them recall our message long after our speech concludes. Using appropriate language for our audience is important for increasing the likelihood that our message connects with listeners. We should strive for extemporaneous delivery, since it is the most compelling. As we evaluate our message, we may find that presentation aids will help make complex ideas easier for our listeners to understand. If we use them judiciously, we can avoid creating barriers or noise between our message and our audience. Lastly, but maybe most importantly, we must practice our speech with our presentation aids, so we make the best impression on our audience. Also, rehearsing helps to reduce communication anxiety. Now that we understand the communication model and the speech creation process, it is time to apply our acumen to informative speaking.
