Public speaking is a vital life skill for interactions in our personal, professional, and public encounters. Speaking is a means of participating in a democratic society and contributes to our career development and personal relationships. Public speaking as a form of communication is a process that requires us to craft a message for a specific audience and deliver that message face-to-face. We may use some presentation aids to improve the reception of our message by our audience. Public speaking can be a fearful experience for many people, even professionals who present for a living. By acknowledging our anxiety and practicing our material, we can become authentic speakers. In your life, you will be asked to speak in public. It may be to train new employees at work, to persuade your neighbors to take on a new activity, or to celebrate a loved one at a family gathering with a toast. You now have the skills; go out there and communicate.
