  • Course Introduction

    This course will help you develop additional skills as an entrepreneur. These skills will be critical as you grow your business and perhaps even search for funding to grow your business. In Unit 1, we will first discuss communication as an entrepreneur, such as the types of communication you might use with employees, and to communication of vision and mission to ensure your goals are accomplished. This unit will also address how to create verbal presentations leveraging technology, which may be necessary if you need funding for your business or to present to potential investors. In Unit 2, we will address some of the personal skills needed to be successful in your business. Managing stress and managing time are important considerations, as are understanding how your attitude and personality may impact your business. We will also address emotional intelligence in this unit, a key component to being an effective salesperson and manager in your business. In Unit 3, we will address some of the additional business skills needed that may not have been addressed in your entrepreneurship program yet. These skills include negotiation, people skills like managing teams, developing an exit strategy, managing projects, and responding to business challenges. Finally, in Unit 4, we will focus on recalibrating your business plan and developing a story and pitch for potential investors. Let's get started!
  • Unit 1: Entrepreneurial Communication

    Communication is imperative to run a successful business. In this unit, we will address some of the communication considerations that are important when running a business. For example, we will address the use of communication channels and how to be an effective communicator as a leader in your business. We will also address nonverbal communication and how to read nonverbal communication in others. This unit will also address public speaking and creating business plan pitches using technology to gain funding for your business.

    Completing this unit should take you approximately 11 hours.

  • Unit 2: Personal Skills for Entrepreneurs

    Many personal skills are needed to keep your business successful, and this unit will address those in detail. Learning how to manage your time and stress will be key topics in this unit. We will also address personality traits, such as resilience, as you face challenges in your business. This unit will also address self-analysis of emotional intelligence skills, which can be a key ingredient to entrepreneurial success.

    Completing this unit should take you approximately 13 hours.

  • Unit 3: Business Skills for Entrepreneurs

    In the last unit, we addressed personal skills needed to have a successful venture; in this unit, we will address additional business skills you will need. These skills can include understanding your options for exit strategies, decision-making, and how to negotiate. As an entrepreneur, there is a high likelihood you'll have to manage projects, people, and teams, and this unit will address those skills and how to grow those skills to benefit your business.

    Completing this unit should take you approximately 12 hours.

  • Unit 4: Selling Your Idea

    In this final unit, we will revisit the business plan and address how you might revise the plan based on the knowledge you have after the launch of your business. There are many things investors might look for, such as if your plan is realistic, which we will talk about. In this unit, we will also address the importance of developing an elevator pitch and a formal presentation, complete with your entrepreneurial story, to sell your idea to potential investors.

        Take some time to review your current business plan and make adjustments as needed. Adjustments you may want to make could include budgets, adding products or services, or adding employees.

  • Final Exam

    • Practice Final Exam

      Take this practice exam to help you get ready for your final exam. This exam can be taken as many times as you like, and it will cover topics similar to the final exam. We recommend that you take a look at the practice final exam before proceeding to the final exam because you will only have three tries to pass the final exam with an 80% or above.

    • Proctored Final Exam

      Take this Proctored Final Exam to complete this course.

      The exam requires a proctor and a proctoring fee of $5. To pass this course, you will need to earn a grade of 80% or higher on the Proctored Final Exam. Your grade for this exam will be calculated as soon as you complete it.

      If you do not pass the exam on your first try, you can take it again up to a maximum of 3 times, with a 30-day waiting period between each attempt. You may not create another account to exceed these limits. After your third failed attempt you will not be able to pass this course, so we recommend taking the Practice Final Exam as many times as you need to feel comfortable.

      We are partnering with SmarterProctoring to help make the proctoring fee more affordable. We will be recording you, your screen, and the audio in your room during the exam. This is an automated proctoring service, but no decisions are automated; recordings are only viewed by our staff with the purpose of making sure it is you taking the exam and verifying any questions about exam integrity.
