Five Models for Understanding Team Dynamics (LOs: 5a)
Introduction
There are five different models of team dynamics that help explain how teams function and interact. These include the Tuckman Team Model, which describes the stages teams typically experience while working together; the DISC personality model for understanding individual differences; the GRIP Model, which highlights four interrelated components of effective teams; the Thomas–Kilmann Conflict Mode Model for managing team conflict; and the Lencioni Model, which explains the five dysfunctions of a team.
An important aspect of effective teamwork entails understanding group dynamics in terms of both team situation and individual temperament. This section reviews a variety of models often applied in workplaces that can help a team perform optimally and manage crises effectively.
