Analyzing The Conflicts

Conflict analysis should be done with self-introspection and estimating the costs of conflict. Interpersonal conflicts can also be analyzed using transaction analysis, Johari window, life positions and stroking. It is best practice to prioritize the conflicts when multiple conflicts are present in the project. According to Warner, conflict analysis includes brainstorming to find the present and future conflicts, cluster related conflicts, prioritize conflicts with 'urgency' and 'significance', identify the important conflicts and also identify the stakeholders related to the conflicts.

The project managers have to listen carefully to the team members and attitude, communication and negotiation are keys to conflict management. Ohlendorf has given a cognitive conflict analysis approach with six steps such as identification of conflict, generation of conflict cases, judgement execution, results analysis, cognitive feedback and negotiation between conflicting parties. Next section explains choosing the best alternative.
