You might find it surprising to learn that many professional public speakers experience communication apprehension. Dr. Sunny is a college professor who confesses that she still gets some anxiety when she gets up in front of a group to make a speech. In this presentation, she shares that the best way to overcome communication apprehension is to identify your specific type of communication apprehension and take steps to change how you think about communicating with others. Here is a simple way of remembering the four types of communication apprehension: Trait: You are anxious because of who you are. Context: You are anxious because of the type of event. Audience: You are anxious because of who is watching you. Situational: You are anxious because of a specific moment in time. In the next few readings and videos, we will explore sources of communication apprehension and ways to manage it.
