Section outline

  • In Unit 3, we began developing our message – the content of our speech. Creating a speech is a process that begins with determining your purpose, your topic, and some structural elements that will provide direction for researching and constructing your message – your speech. The audience analysis we conducted in Unit 2 is part of this preliminary process, as it influences our choice of topic and specific purpose. Before we move on to researching our topic in the next unit, we took some time to understand the value of organizing our speech materials using outlines. Outlines provide structure as we create our speech content and support when we deliver our speeches to our audiences. Using outlines throughout the speech creation process will help save you time and reduce some of that communication anxiety.
