In the context of communication apprehension, scrutiny fear is the core driver behind audience-based anxiety. It is the fear of being watched, observed, or judged by others like our audience members. You might feel fine talking to peers, but then become anxious when speaking to your boss, your teacher, or a crowd of strangers. It is often driven by how we perceive the audience's reaction or status compared to our own. In a later video in this section, Dr. Sunny will provide strategies for managing communication apprehension like scrutiny fear.
